Nikky Morgan-Smith is an artist based in the Northern Rivers of NSW.
Morgan-Smith completed a cross institutional bachelor of visual arts at SCU/RMIT in 2003, and has staged solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and participated in group exhibitions nationally and internationally,.
Morgan-Smith has been a finalist in many prestigious awards, most recently the Jacaranda Touring Drawing Prize. Morgan-smith has been the recipient of various artists in residence programs, most recently the Suzzane Bastien Foundation artist in residence.
Morgan-Smith has a deep connection to her own process by building up and breaking down, working intuitively at times and more formally at others. She leads us through thoughts, behaviour, memory and action with her instinctual gesture, assertive brush mark and playful image use.
Morgan-Smith's work holds together the elements of disorder in ways planned decisions cannot imitate. Her use of materials and visual language is articulate, with a physicality that is intimately encoded in her process.
Her work has a steady integrity that is embodied in metaphors that carry her stories and observations of life.
Morgan-Smith's work is represented in numerous private collections in Australia and internationally including Skretting ARC in Norway.
