Matthew considers ‘not-making’ as a post-conceptual practice that explores immateriality through an understanding of a post-Marxist aesthetics and the commercialisation of ‘non-productive labour’. The research invokes critical ideologies as a deconstruction of art and the everyday, presented through installation, performance and text.

Matthew has participated in These Economies, a performance with Bus Projects for Sydney Contemporary in 2015, Stonevilla Wearable Art Prize in 2017 & 2019, and most recently for 'Making Art Public: 50 Years of Kaldor Public Art Projects' at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (2019).
